Volvo Trucks has announced it will sponsor two scholarships valued at $8,700 each for students studying Diesel Advanced Technology Education (DATE) for Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks program at WyoTech’s Laramie, Wyo., and Blairsville, Pa., campuses. The two WyoTech campuses will receive one DATE scholarship apiece. Candidates will be judged on a number of factors, including academic standing, knowledge, talent, skill, enthusiasm, long-term career potential, as well as economic need.
The Volvo Trucks scholarships will be managed by the Wyoming Technical Institute (WTI) Foundation. WTI provides scholarships to students attending WyoTech campuses throughout the United States.
The DATE program is offered exclusively at WyoTech’s Laramie and Blairsville campuses. Its comprehensive curriculum complements WyoTech’s core Diesel Technology training programs to help prepare graduates for entry-level positions servicing and repairing Volvo trucks. Students enrolled in the program receive specialized training on Volvo engines, electronics, emissions, powertrain and chassis components. DATE is designed to produce advanced apprentice technicians with a potential for an accelerated path in the VistaTech program.
Through VistaTech, Volvo technicians complete instructor-led and Web-based training courses to develop their skills and attain advanced certification levels as they work toward becoming a Volvo master technician. The VistaTech certification program continues to support Volvo master technicians in the Volvo Trucks dealer network.
To date, WyoTech has placed 100 percent of its DATE graduates in diesel service center positions.
Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
