Study Ranks 10 Most Reliable Cars Sold in America

What are the 10 most reliable cars sold in America? The website 24/7 Wall Street recently published its list.

The site based its rankings on a combination of factors:

  • The most recently Vehicle Health Index, just published by CarMD, a company that produces automotive diagnostic devices for the consumer market. The survey tracks the frequency and cost of repairs for most major car brands based on 10 years of data drawn from the diagnostic computers of cars from the 2002 through 2012 model years.
  • Five years of car sales data from Edmunds.com.
  • Crash and rollover safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
  • J.D. Power’s vehicle dependability study.

In ascending ordering, here are 24/7 Wall Street’s 10 Most Reliable Cars:

2010 Subaru Outback
No. 10 — 2010 Subaru Outback

2011 Chevy Impala

No. 9 — 2011 Chevy Impala

2010 Hyuandai Sonata
No. 8 — 2010 Hyundai Sonata

The study noted that while other cars, such as the Toyota Prius hybrid, may need fewer repairs than many of the vehicles on this list, when they do need work, the cost of those repairs can run into thousands of dollars. Which is why, when averaged out, many seemingly reliable models ranked below the top 10.
