–>Your job interview is the perfect opportunity to show off your skills and impress your future boss.

However, it’s easy to lose control during the interview and fumble over words or forget information. This can sometimes make it difficult to answer an easy question.

Here’s what you can do to compete for the job that you want.

Research the Company

Learn about the company’s mission. Who are their customers? Who’s the competition… local or national? Are you up on industry news? Have you learned everything you can by reading the company’s website? The more you know about the company, the more likely it will be that you’ll make a positive impression during your interview.

Memorize Important Details

Flash cards are still a good tool for memorizing important facts. A good memory can make an impact and show the interviewer that you’ve done your research.

Prepare to Answer the Most Common Questions

Many interviews will ask typical questions, like, “Tell me about yourself. Why are you interested in working for our company? What are your career goals? Where would you like to be in five to 10 years? What are some of the things you enjoyed most about your last job? What are your greatest strengths?”

Take time to answer if you’re asked a tough question. Don’t rush. Tell the interviewer that you will need a moment to think about the question. If you don’t know the answer, be honest and say that you don’t know. Honesty is often appreciated.

Dress Appropriately

Every company has a dress code, whether it’s official or informal. When you research a company, make it a point to find out how employees dress. Dressing correctly can send a signal that you’re a person who attempts to fit in.

Relax and Enjoy the Experience

Everyone has a friendly side. It could be a good time to show yours during the interview. The interviewer will always look for signs that you’re someone that others could enjoy working with on a daily basis. Smile. Be friendly and genuine.

Ask the Right Questions

Not asking the right questions is a mistake that some people make during an interview. Keep in mind that you’re interviewing them, too. Would you enjoy working for the company? Does it offer a work atmosphere where you can learn and advance? Are the employees happy? Is there evidence of good teamwork?

If you feel that the company would not be a good fit, then continue looking. It’s better to move on than take a job that you’ll end up hating.
