Working as a street rod and custom fabrication professional is like being an artist whose canvas is a vehicle waiting to be worked by your unique customizing skills.
Custom fabrication is about building a vehicle, quite literally, from the ground up. To others, the profession might be reduced to the mere act of banging on metal with a hammer. But to those professionals who work a hard day’s nine-to-five along with people like you hoping to break into the field, street rod and custom fabrication is an art form worthy of distinction.
WyoTech in Blairsville is training today’s students to be tomorrow’s maestros where street rod and custom fabrication is concerned. Students learn the techniques and are tasked with developing the skills needed to customize vehicles to exact design specifications. The English wheel, power hammers, bead rollers, louver presses and custom paint training are covered in WyoTech’s Street Rod and Custom Fabrication course.
Course objectives include the following:
- Custom and specialized sheet metal shaping and fabrication
- Application of lead (body solder)
- M.I.G., T.I.G. and oxy-acetylene welding
- Chop tops including Carson style tops
- Hidden pin hinges (suicide doors)
- Body Construction including firewalls, floorboards and transmission tunnels
The first step is getting the education that can help open the doors to opportunity. WyoTech can provide the training and help you craft a cover letter and resume that may get positive results when it’s time for you to contact employers.
While no one can guarantee employment, industry-specific training, the right support network, favorable local economic conditions and your own hard work can often produce an expected employment outcome.
