The WyoTech Lifestyle

WyoTech CampusMost career colleges and vocational schools primarily serve students in their immediate areas. WyoTech is different. One of America’s leading post-secondary schools for training in fields of automotive, collision/refinishing, diesel, motorcycle and marine technologies as well as the building trades, WyoTech’s six campuses draw students from all over the United States, Canada and overseas.

So what it is like to go to WyoTech? Here is a glimpse of the WyoTech lifestyle:

Hours. Hours vary from campus to campus, but most WyoTech students can plan on spending about six-and-a-half hours a day in class Monday through Friday. However, at WyoTech’s campuses in Long Beach and Fremont, Calif., average daily class time can be shorter — or longer — because more of their students work during the day and then take classes in the evenings or on weekends.

Housing. The WyoTech campuses in Laramie, Wyo., and Blairsville, Pa., offer on-campus dormitory-style student housing similar to those at traditional colleges.  WyoTech’s Daytona Beach, Fla., campus has no on-campus housing, they offer referrals to local apartment buildings and complexes that cater to students. Long Beach and Fremont are considered “commuter” schools with students either living at home or already having their own housing in the area, but do offer local referrals as needed.

Transportation. Most students at WyoTech’s Laramie and Blairsville campuses don’t need to worry about private transportation as they live on campus. Even so, many students have their own cars or take public transportation. All of WyoTech’s other campuses have convenient access to local public transportation systems. Fremont is particularly transportation-friendly as it’s situated near a San Francisco Bay area BART line and runs its own shuttle between the campus and the BART terminal. All WyoTech campuses have ample free parking for students’ cars.
Food Service. Although all WyoTech campuses have student lounge areas that serve as lunch areas, study halls, etc., there are no formal cafeterias or other food service facilities at the schools. There are, however, numerous dining options ranging from grocery and convenience stores to fast foods outlets and traditional restaurants within walking distance (or an easy drive) of all WyoTech locations.

Recreation and Night Life. Off-campus lifestyle options depend heavily on the school you attend:

  • Blairsville, Pa. — Indiana County offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation, while Blairsville offers a variety of restaurants, movie theaters, bowling alleys and race tracks for off-campus entertainment.
  • Daytona Beach, Fla. — WyoTech’s Daytona Beach campus is situated in the new Destination Daytona, where motorcycles rule! It is home to the world’s largest Harley-Davidson dealership, Arlen Ness custom shop, Triumph and Ducati shops and a host of restaurants. Daytona Beach also boasts an array of motorcycle tracks as well as 23 miles of legendary beaches. Watersports of all kinds can be enjoyed virtually year-round.
  • Fremont, Calif. — Sitting on the southeast side of San Francisco Bay, Fremont is the fourth largest city in the Bay Area. With diverse cultural activities, Fremont offers the best of metropolitan and outlying rural living.
  • Laramie, Wyo. — Laramie sits adjacent to the Medicine Bow National Forest with its beautiful hiking trails, while skiing and snowmobiling are available in nearby Snowy Mountain Range. Downtown Laramie is home to numerous movie theaters, bowling alleys and restaurants.
  • Long Beach, Calif. — Midway between Los Angeles and Orange County, Long Beach offers myriad dining and entertainment options. The campus is within an easy drive of the Pacific Ocean, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Angel Stadium, the Honda Center (home of the Anaheim Ducks) and numerous regional shopping centers. L.A.’s Staples Center, Dodger Stadium, USC and UCLA football and numerous theaters and concert venues are also within a 30- to 45-minute drive.
