How to Match a Career with your Personality

Choosing the right career can be a challenge, whether it’s your first choice, second or possibly the third. How do you find a career to match your personality? The truth is there are no easy ways to help you make the decision. However, there are some things you can do to ease the challenge.
This might sound like an old worn out record player, but it helps tremendously if you can simply take two sheets of paper and label one as “Things I Like Doing” and the other “Things I’d Rather Pass On.”
There’s absolutely no rush, take your time. This is an exercise in which you’ll want to be as thorough as possible. The things you write should be more work-related, such as “I don’t enjoy sitting in one place for too long, “I like working with my hands,” or “I like being in a position to be my own boss one day.” Just keep in mind there are no wrong answers.
The next thing you should do is get the opinion of people you know and trust. It doesn’t mean you have to treat what they say as law, but if they’re going to take the time to offer a suggestion, you might as well pay them the same respect and listen with patience.
The next step is to pick out several careers that you like, and several more possibly suggested by others. It’s all about making choices that will allow you to express yourself the way you want. After all, if you’re going to make a living at something, it might as well be a career you can enjoy doing.
One of the most important steps to take in following up is visiting, if possible, the type of business that matches the career you’ve got your mind set on. Nothing beats seeing how people work and play real-time in the career field they hope to make a living in.
