Fewer Auto Dealerships Create other Automotive Career Opportunities

automotive.jpgAuto Dealerships that are closing by General Motors and Chrysler across the nation aren't doing any big favors for automotive tech graduates looking to find a mechanic job after graduation. However, it stands to reason that fewer cars and trucks being sold means people around the country are depending on their vehicles to be a lot more reliable.

Independent repair shops are beginning to pick up the pace in hiring! This is excellent news for students graduating from an automotive technology program. Students', who take their education seriously and remain near the top of their class, are usually the first to reap the rewards of finding employment in the automotive service industry.

And there's more good news on the horizon. Chain stores such as Pep Boys, which presently operates 562 locations around the country, plans to open 15 auto-service oriented stores in 2009 and 20 to 40 more in 2010. This means there's room for new employees to start in entry-level mechanic positions.

Firestone is another well known service chain that plans on expanding its operations by adding 80 more locations throughout 2009 and 2010. These are the big operators; just think of all the other neighborhood shops that will pick up business.

People want to keep their cars these days, and they're going to be in need of automotive service.
