If self-discipline were such an easy attainment, there would be far more people happy about they've accomplished in life. Self-discipline in its most simplistic terms is: The ability to get yourself to take action in spite of what your emotional state may or may not be.
The following are the key components that form the basis of self-discipline:
1. Acceptance
You have to first accept what your limitations are, and then move beyond them. This is a process that will require a lot of inner reflection and honesty on your behalf. Once you accept a thing-you're able to move beyond it. It's good to note that acceptance doesn't mean you've given up on a challenge.
2. Willpower
Developing willpower will help you overcome laziness and procrastination. It's the ability to make a decision and follow it until you've achieved your goal. It's also the ability to tap into that inner power that allows us to overcome the urge to indulge in unnecessary and useless habits. Will power is a cornerstone of success.
3. Hard Work
Perhaps the simplest definition of hard work is: Doing something that presents a challenge. Most people will try and avoid hard work to do what's easiest. This is why you should always avoid this approach and do the exact opposite. The truth is, the greater the challenge, the less competition you'll have to worry about in life.
5. Persistence
If you can develop the ability to maintain a course of action regardless of your feelings or emotions, you fit into the category of being 'persistent'. Let's face it, staying on track is tough. There will always be the times you'll feel motivated; and there will always be those times where you won't.
Just keep in mind it won't be your willpower, or your acceptance that will produce results-it's your action that gets the job done.
