Obama’s Call for Higher Education

In today’s economy, job seekers with only a high school degree face tough job prospects. President Obama wants to change the outcome! In a recent speech to Congress, the president set forth a simple goal for higher education: He's asking young Americans to commit to at least one year of post-high school training, whether through vocational training, an apprenticeship, or a two or four-year college.

Here's why! Nearly three-quarters of the fastest-growing occupations require more than just a high school diploma. At present, the nation has one of the highest high school dropout rates of any industrialized nation. Over half of all students who begin college never finish.

For many people, this could signal the time to return to school to get the education needed to compete in today's world. Thus, it stands to reason that vocational and community college opportunities will be upgraded.
