Snow Chains or Tires for the Winter Season?

As the winter season approaches, you might be wondering about whether to use snow chains, or spend the extra cash and buy a set of snow tires.

In the right conditions, snow chains can give you better traction and greater control over road conditions, but they’re most effective if used properly. And, it’s best to get them installed by a professional.

Cross link chains are effective also. The biting edge gives you an advantage on the ice, but is more difficult to install than the conventional tire chain.

For short-term use, cable and plastic tire chains can be depended on to get the job done. In some states, studded tires are even allowed and could be an attractive option.

In any event, you should discuss the options with family members and your mechanic to see what best meets your needs. Oh, and don’t forget, your wallet might have a few things to say as well.
