How to Choose a Motorcycle Intercom that Works for You!

motorcycle-1.jpgIf you enjoy bike riding, chances are you'll agree that riding alone can be a great solitary experience that allows you to clear your head and organize your thoughts. There's nothing like being lost in the gaze of an open horizon.

On the other hand, if you’ve got a passenger or you're riding with another biker or group of bikers, sooner or later you'll need to communicate with them.

Motorcycle intercom systems allow you to do that. The challenge is in finding a compatible price in a huge range of products. And, it's critical that you find a system that can work in all types of diverse environments. Most people end up either loving or hating their purchase.

Here's an overview of the types of motorcycle intercoms:

1. Acoustic Motorcycle Intercom

This is one of the most back types, and doesn't use electronics. It uses hollow tubes that your voice travels through. They're dependable, but the downside is there's no way to adjust volume, or filter out wind noise. The system employs earplugs, and these can become uncomfortable if worn for long periods. This system only works from rider to rider, and not from bike to bike.

2. Wired Intercom System

The wireless system keeps you worry-free form external interferences. Some systems allow you to use a FSR/GMRS radio plug in. In this scenario, the radio would have to have voice activation for it to be used.

On the downside, having to unplug your system every time you dismount your bike can be worrisome.

3. Wireless Intercom Systems

These systems use Frequency Modulation (FM) systems that produce a clear sound between users, as long as the distance between them isn't too great. If the range between bikes is longer, then the GMRS intercom will give a better performance.

There are a lot of ways you can go when choosing a motorcycle intercom system, no matter what your level of expertise.
