High Performance Powertrain—Automotive Technology Exposed

power-train-tech.JPGIn the simplest terms, a powertrain is made up of the engine, transmission, and a driveshaft. Energy is created in the engine, and then transferred to the transmission. The transmission is designed to take that power, through gear ratios, slows it down and further transmits this energy as torque.

Depending on a machine or vehicle, a powertrain system can be very complicated. The engine producing the power can be manually, chemically, or even nuclear powered.

In today's world, engineers and scientists are experimenting to produce better engines and powertrains by working with alternative fuels such as, biodiesel, synthetic, and fuel cell. The main goal behind any powertrain system is to provide the maximum amount of propulsion with a minimal use of fuel.

Depending on the vehicle, and what segment of the population a vehicle manufacture is attempting to appeal to, a truck's powertrain might be described differently than that of a hybrid powertrain.

Either way, the whole idea is to convey the message that the powertrain is responsible for turning power into torque, and providing the power needed to adequately power a vehicle.
The good news is the automotive industry is always in need of qualified technicians. And, successful training can quality you to seek entry-level employment in the automotive technology field.
