The first Wounded Warrior Car Show was held at the WyoTech campus in Long Beach, California on August 17th, 2008. The event was held as a charity fund raiser for the injured Marines Semper Fi Fund.
The first cars for the show arrived the night before the show, and were stored in the WyoTech Automotive building for safe keeping.
The gates opened at 6am-the first car was a '57 Ford, followed by the Marines and their cars which arrived at 8:45am. The Marine color guard did a flag presentation to the National Anthem at 9:05am.
The Air Force Reserve band, just back from Iraq and Afghanistan, played oldies through the morning. K-EARTH 101 played lively music for the afternoon. ABC Eyewitness News was on grounds to cover the event for the 5pm news slot.
Raffle tickets for 7 different raffles included prizes such as: car accessories and other car related apparel and items. One big raffle item was from Morgan's Jeweler's, who donated a men's watch form Omega-retail, valued at $2400.00. The winner of that raffle was kind enough to advise that he will be selling the watch, and donating the proceeds to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
The event featured 119 cars, and that's not bad for the first time out! One of the many cars featured at the show was an Oldsmobile '32 Sedan/Roadster-with an Oldsmobile '55 engine that was shipped to Japan, built, and then shipped back to California. Another favorite in the lineup was a ’68 Camaro-with an LS engine. The Factory stocked 409 was flawless.
Camee Edelbrock was also in attendance with her 2008 Saleen Mustang. Other notable participants were Big Dave Deal, designer of the participants T-shirts, and responsible for the design in Pixar's CARS Movies. SoCal Car Culture was out to take pictures, and Larry Wood from the Hot Wheels design team also showed up.
WyoTech thanks everyone for showing up and making the day a huge success.
