The price of gas is on everyone's minds these days. And, while no one knows what the foreseeable future will bring, there are some simple steps you can take to keep a little change in your pockets.
1. Schedule regular maintenance on your vehicle.
There's no reason you can’t keep your vehicle running smoothly, not matter what's going on in the economy. Keep the tires properly inflated, change the motor oil, and replace the oil filter on a regular basis.
2. Drive conservatively.
Accelerating quickly can burn gas in a hurry. Obey the posted speed limits on both the streets and the highways.
3. Clean the car out.
You'd be surprise at what excess weight can do to your gas mileage. Clean out the trunk and leave only those items necessary. Excess weight in the trunk or backseat will make the engine work much harder.
4. Avoid Rush Hour if possible
For some, this might present a challenge, but if you can avoid rush hour, you'll avoid wasting fuel and being stressed from sitting in traffic.
5. Carpool with associates
You can fight the daily traffic grind by organizing a car pool. Commuters driving alone often face stress, anxiety, and road rage. Car pooling also helps to reduce air overall air pollution.
6. Use public transportation
There are times when you can use public transportation and leave your vehicle at home. Check the internet, the yellow pages, or your local paper for in information on available public transportation.
7. Plan your errands more efficiently
You can save both time and money if you plan your trips ahead of time. Reducing the amount of trips, and distance and travel will save fuel and reduce the wear and tear of your vehicle.
