B.R.A.K.E.S. = Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe

January 26, 2008 was a day when Doug Herbert-Tops Fuel Drag Racer-would experience every parent's worst nightmare. His two sons, Jon, 17, and James, 12, lost their lives in a terrible and tragic automobile accident.

Doug has been able to make some sense out of this horrible tragedy, and is making it his mission to help prevent other families, friends, and parents from having to experience the tragedy and pain he has learned to endure.

The result is the partnership formed with Jon's classmates from South Lake Christianity Academy: Thus BRAKES was born.

Doug Herbert is an integral part of our WyoTech NHRA Tech Talk Program. We're grateful for the time he commits to the program and its enrollees, speaking in a language they can understand, answering questions, and personally autographing sessions within his hospitality area.

Doug reminds everyone, "I speak to future WyoTech students at every race across the country. Most of the time they are there when we warm up the car and they tour the Snap-on Tools display."

At WyoTech, we're very proud to support Doug's efforts in helping to keep teenagers safe, and in getting out the message of the severe consequences of unsafe driving.

Doug's race in Charlotte is dedicated to his sons. "We're doing a lot with BRAKES right now, especially this weekend in Charlotte," said Herbert, whose Top Fuel dragster will don a BRAKES-themed wrap as a tribute to Jon and James.
