How to Share the Road with Big Trucks

diesel-1.jpgIf you do a lot of driving, then you know how frightening it can be to drive the road with a big truck riding your rear bumper.

Let's face it, big trucks are not something you want to tangle with. However, if you had better insight into the world as seen through truckers' eyes, you might better understand a truck driver's performance, and how you can avoid tangling with them.

THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

1. Trucks have their share of mirrors and blind spots

You'll find several different types of mirrors on most trucks; flat and convex. Because of their size and how they're built, many truck mirrors are able to distort a vehicle image, or leave out entire sections of the lane beside the truck. A word to the wise! The most dangerous place to drive is alongside a big rig. Big rig drivers have limited visibility, and you can verify this by attempting to see the driver's face in the mirror.

2. Trucker Lanes

The vast majority of big truck drivers are dependable about using their signals when attempting to make a turn. Always watch for them, and if you happen to be in the way when the signal goes on-move out of the way as quickly as possible. Remember, for safety purposes, trucks always have the right of way.
