Improve Your Gas Mileage with These Fuel Saving Tips

Improving gas mileage should be on the minds of everyone these days. Not only is fuel efficiency good for the environment, but it's also easier on the wallet in the long run.

YOU CAN DO YOUR PART WITH THESE SIMPLE GAS-SAVING IDEAS

1. Slow down! Did you know that slowing down can save a great deal on gas consumption? Once your car exceeds 60 mph, its gas performance rapidly decreases.

2. The simple act of turning your gas pump handle 180 degrees can put up to a half more cup of gas in your vehicle. If you don't get the gas, the next customer behind you will.

3. Quick starts and stops can also be a killer on the gas tank. Driving around town will do this. Make it a point to drive as little in stop-go traffic as possible.

4. Try not to top off the tank when filling. It's a well known fact that short gas bursts don't calibrate well, and you could actually be overcharged. Make sure you fasten the gas cap properly. Fuel will evaporate without your knowledge.

5. Using your air conditioner when it's not necessary can eat up a lot gas. You should also be aware that driving with your windows down will increase the drag on your vehicle, and can actually guzzle more gas than the AC.

6. If you're taking a long trip, utilizing your cruise control saves on gas substantially, and comes in handy, especially when going uphill.
