No matter the age or style of your hotrod, there are always some key enhancements that can make it stick out in a crowd.
Historically, hotrods were cars in the 30's and 40's that were modified for enhance performance. Cams, frame rails, carburetors, pushrods, and other engine parts can be tweaked to crank up speed and performance. Save your pennies. The facelift can get expensive!
Cosmetic Tips for the Vintage Hotrod
1. Prep for Priming
If you getting ready to paint and prime your vehicle, measure the door seams before the application. Doors seams can grow smaller after the surface is painted and dries.
2. Waterproof the cowl
The cowl and the windshield may need some attention during the makeover. To prevent leaks, the slot that was cut for the windshield needs to be filled in to become watertight. Make sure the cowl is watertight as well.
3. Lay out the parts
Hoods, fenders, and rumble boards should be painted first, and given plenty of time to dry. These parts are far easier to paint when separated from the hotrod.
4. Sand the Firewall and Cowl
The surface of your car should be smooth, allowing the doors and body jam to fit together as if one piece. You should also sand around the inner surfaces of the firewall and cowl.
5. Paint the Undercarriage
As simple thing like painting the undercarriage of your hotrod can work wonders. This will help protect your car form road grease and grime. It will also protect from the ravishes of rust.
Take your time in the enhancements; it's easy to make a mistake that can't be corrected.
