The Secret to Fixing Any Engine in Record Time

Fixing and engine can be a challenge depending on what's in need of repair. If it's as challenging as repairing a damaged engine block or engine valves, you're going to have to roll up your sleeves and plan to be involved for an extended period of time, or, take your vehicle to a professional.

Knowledge is Power!

The first order of business is to know what the problem is. This means listening to noises and watching for engine warning likes that go off and on. If you can stop a problem before it starts, you're already way ahead in the game.

Narrow the problem down. How does the car start? How does it run? Is it eating up too much gas? Try and trace it down to the fuel system, and then proceed to the electrical system if needed.

Isolate the Problem

If and when you think you have the problem isolated, endeavor to find the weakest link in that particular system.

If your engines problems are due to low pressure, check your oil level. Leaking oil can usually be attributed to faulty gaskets or seals. Engine oil burning at a fast pace can usually be attributed to a worn valve, worn seals, or engine rings and cylinders in need of replacing.

Your car's faulty oil pressure sending unit can also give you a false reading of low pressure. A short to the ground of the unit may cause the warning light to remain on even when disconnected.

Knowing first where the problem is, and then having the skill set to repair it is the true secret of timely engine repair.
