Your car may have start-up problems for any number of reasons. However, there are a few common reasons that seem to keep popping up over and over.
Check out a few overlooked causes:
1. Loosen the Cables
Loose battery connection cables can often be the cause of your car not starting. Lift up the hood to see if they look corroded. If corroded or loose, take a screwdriver and wedge it between the connector and the terminal post. If it can't start, you may need to replace the cables.
2. Hack the Clicking Noises
If you hear a rapid clicking noise, it's probably due to a dead battery. If the battery still has juice, check the wire leading to and from the starter for any loose connections.
3. Choke the choke
For cars with carburetors, the choke can get stuck. In this case it'll need to be freed before the car can rev-up. If your vehicle is fuel injected, you may need to seek out professional advice and help if it appears the problem lies in this area.
4. Dry the Cap
Again, for cars with a distributor cap, a non-start could mean the inside of the distributor cap could be damp.
If the car has idling difficulties, this could be the early-warning signs of a future non-start. Have your distributor, timing, and spark plugs checked at the earliest opportunity.
5. Gas it Up
You could be like the thousands of people that run of gas on occasion. Failure to put fuel in the tank ranks is the number one reason vehicles won't start on demand.
If you feel like things in your life are "running" on empty, it may be the perfect time to explore the various career training opportunities an automotive tech school has to offer.
