No one can stress enough the importance of leaving home with the right tools in your car. And, even if you've never taken an auto mechanics class, having tools you can depend on, should fall somewhere in between common sense; and-a little bit more common sense.
Don't fret if you're just getting up to speed on the car-trunk essentials!
Here's a list of the tools that can get you out of a nasty crunch.
1. Stash the Glove Compartment
Starting with the glove box, stash your owner's manual, insurance papers, road map, flash light, some spare fuses, and at least one box of handy wipes.
2. Load the Cell Phone
Make sure you load up on cell phone minutes if you have a prepaid plan; otherwise you'll defeat the purpose of having a cell phone if it goes dead. And, it's a great idea to keep the prepaid card handy.
3. Don't let the Circumstances Jack You up
A spare jack and a spare tire are essential; perhaps the most important thing to have in your vehicle at all times. It goes without saying to make sure you know how to change a flat tire if need be.
Otherwise, you may find yourself sitting on the side of the road for hours before help arrives.
4. Pack a Pair of Coveralls
A pair of work gloves and coveralls should be standard carry-on staples for your vehicle. Hand cleaner, a first aid kit for those unexpected bruises, and even a spare fan belt-one that actually fits.
5. Don't Get Jumped by Your Cables
Battery jumper cables, emergency road flares, a gallon of radiator coolant, and couple of bungee cords. You never know what you may have to fasten down.
6. Throw a Blanket in the Backseat
Don't forget that old blanket you've thought about throwing away. It can come in handy if you're stuck out on the road at night. Put it where you cad find it.
7. Keep Some Water Handy
Keep some water handy. It's one of the last things that people think of, because it's always so readily available. Besides, you made need water to supplement the coolant if your car is overheating.
8. Jot down Important Numbers
Do you know how many people forget to write down essential telephone numbers!
Accidents or unexpected roadside events can leave a person struggling to think clearly.
Always be prepared.
