Auto Detailing is an art, and there are people that make a serious living from it. There are a lot of things that need to be balanced though before a person can be considered a true professional . A competent detailer has to have a solid grip on chemicals, industry standards, customer requirements, and vehicle surfaces.
Along with automotive classes that open up industry possibilities, you can increase your own personal knowledge by networking in professional detailing organizations, or combing through industry trade magazines.
Here are some great ways to help your car outshine the competition:
1. Polish the Inside
Start with the interior on the driver's side, and then work through the rest of the interior. It's best to leave the windows for last. Be very careful not to get any chemicals on clear plastic that covers the instrument panels.
2. De-grease the Engine Bay
You should clean the engine bay before attempting to wash the vehicle. Much of the dirt and grease landing on the vehicle will be removed during washing. Remember, even dressed-engines can attract dust quickly. Do a thorough wipe down no matter how good the engine looks.
3. Dress up the Exterior
The exterior is what the world will judge your car by. Whether you start at the top and work down, or vice-versa, make sure you do a thorough job of washing the wheels, wheel wells, and kick panels. For obvious reasons, make sure the windows are completely closed.
